IFI Community Leadership Programme Year two groups attend Roundtable Workshops to kick start the programme

IFI Community Leadership Programme Year two groups attend Roundtable workshops to kick start the programme.

Year two of the Community Leadership Programme (CLP) is now underway with a series of three roundtable events.

Congratulations to the 29 groups that have been awarded places on the 2010-2011 Programme.

The groups were selected from across Northern Ireland and the six border counties in the south.

Each group has nominated 5 individuals who will work towards achieving a level three Leadership from the Institute for Leadership and Management.  The group will also have the opportunity to tailor a training programme to meet the needs of their group and receive a bursary of £2,500 to undertake a small project.

Una McKernan from NICVA commented “This is now the second year of this very successful programme. The first 27 groups have almost completed their learning pathways and are showing lots of evidence of improved leadership skills”

The roundtable events brought together clusters of groups in order for them to network and learn from each other. The roundtables are being held in Belfast, Cavan and Derry throughout March.

At the events John Carson from IFI encouraged them to give the time and effort required to complete this leadership programme. He said” IFI is making a big investment in developing community leadership to change communities for the better; it is now up to you to make the most of it”

Colin Buick a representative from Mallusk Community Action Group who is a participant on year one of the CLP spoke at the Belfast roundtable to encourage the new groups. He said “This time last year I was just starting out on the programme. Since then our group gone from strength to strength, we have learnt so much about leadership”. He continued “The CLP is like the “Go for it programme” for community groups.

After dinner Richard O’Rawe from Stellar Leadership challenged the groups present to unlock their leadership potential. He urged them to actively influence people in their local communities and to bring real change through strong leadership. Quoting Ghandi he said “You must be the change you wish to see in the world”.
