Lisanelly Regeneration Group
Lisanelly Regeneration Group was established in Lisanelly Heights in Omagh in 1998 to address the lack of amenities and community spirit, with special emphasis on young people in the area. The area had been suffering from social and economic deprivation for the previous number of years which had resulted in variable community representation.
The overall objective of the Group is to make GK House an integral part of the Community where both the residents of Gortview/Killybrack Close and the wider local community can access facilities that provide activities for all age groups and that they can gain skills that can give them an opportunity to gain/enhance employment. We provide programmes and projects for participants including Pre-school, Youth Intervention, Intergenerational, Social Awareness and also training and skills based courses (Accredited & Certified) which can help with employability and personal development. We run a weekly youth club which runs for 34 weeks of the year and a Summer Scheme which runs 4 weeks during the Summer Holiday term. We have 50+ young people registered with our Club. We work with the Sure Start Initiative. This project supports a mother throughout pregnancy until the child reaches the 4th birthday and involves programmes from Jo- jingles (recreational) to Speech & Language (educational). GK House hosts weekly parent and toddler sessions which are very popular and well represented. They also provide baby massage yoga, personal development and behavioural management which are hosted in GK House. We work with SL-eight, Supporting Living Project which helps to support young people who are living on their own for the first time; we run programmes in ICT and Life Skills in two estates.
We also work with the Senior Citizens Consortium to host training such as Yoga, Heart Start and Walking training.
