Knockatallon Development Committee was set up in 1994 with the aim of bringing some social and economic regeneration to the locality.
The reopening of the border roads had brought with it a new air of optimism and the Development Committee decided that this was the ideal time to fully develop the potential of the area.
In 1994 the Tydavnet Parish Strategy was carried out by Professors Murray and Greer from The Queen's University, Belfast. This strategy highlighted the need for an accommodation base in north. Hence the Committee decided to develop the local hall, which had been built with voluntary labour in the early 1950s, to include a bar, restaurant, function room and 14 en-suite bedrooms. Work began on this tourism project in May 1999 and was opened in 2000 as the Sliabh Beagh Hotel & Tourism Centre. The centre is now managed by Knockatallon Development Company Ltd.
A number of young members joined the Knockatallon Development Committee in February 2010 and successfully organized a festive weekend in July 2010 to celebrate the anniversary of the opening of the Sliabh Beagh Centre.
