Dundalk Media Centre is an independent non-profit making community business set up in February 2002 by community group leaders who wanted to provide a community radio and TV service for the people living in the Dundalk area.

As a non-profit limited company, we were successful in applying for FÁS Social Economy and later Pobal Community Services Programme funding. Through Pobal CSP we employ four full time staff and we have four placements from the Central CE Scheme in Dundalk. From time to time, we recruit people for short term media project work. The Dundalk Media Centre has benefited from a number of Peace and Reconciliation Grants to help with capital and community development training delivery since 2002.A team of ninety volunteers give their time freely to Dundalk FM100’s weekly broadcast schedule – and we now have over seventy music, sport, magazine and dedicated community group shows each week. The Dundalk Media Centre is actively involved with 20 other community radio stations in Ireland through CRAOL (‘ag craoladh’ means to broadcast in Irish) –and also with community stations in Northern Ireland. Our main activities are

  • We run a community radio service ‘Dundalk FM100’.
  • We train community groups to use the studios and create their own programmes.
  • We also deliver media training to schools and colleges in the area.
  • The station has an outside broadcast unit, which is brought out to events on a regular basis.

The Board of Directors is made up of 6 individual members, 6 community group representatives and 2 statutory agency or business representatives. We have a number of committees that encourage all members to take an active role in the running of the company e.g. programming and technical, finance and funding, community development and human resources. Annual Membership costs €50 for Community Groups, €10 for unwaged and €25 for waged. To bring out the OB Unit we pay €50 for it to be towed out and we ask the community group to pay for this.
