Donegal Family Resource Centre
The Donegal Family Resource Centre est. 2005 is a community development project funded by the Irish Government under the NDP 2007-2013.
We are a ‘Not-for-Profit’ company run by a Voluntary Management Board, the members are reflective of our community and support the Elderly, Lone Parents, Men & Women, Unemployed and Youth.
The group works to a 3yr strategic plan under a contract with the Family Support Agency. We are in the first year of our 3rd plan.
We have moved to a larger premises based on Upper Main St., Donegal Town which will enable us to increase our services and there will be more available space for meetings and activities.
As a family resource centre, we are here to combat disadvantage and improve the function of the family unit. The emphasis is on the involvement in developing approaches to tackle the problems they face and on creating successful partnerships between the voluntary and statutory agencies in each area. The Family Resource Centre involves people from marginalised groups and areas of disadvantage at all levels of the project. We provide training, education, information, advice, support and full office service including free internet access and meeting rooms.
We act as a first step to community participation and social inclusion. By giving those marginalised or living in poverty the opportunity to participate in the decision making which affects their lives, it can lead to improvements in their living standards and overall well-being promoting positive mental health.
Courses = Computers, Digital Photography, Conversational Spanish, Painting, Basic Counselling, Gardening and Occupational First Aid.
Activities = Walking Group, Knitting Group, Writers Group, Mental Health Groups, over 55 Social Dancing, Elderly Phone Service.
