Need help with financial management procedures?

Almost all the year 3 groups have now received their governance support session and follow -up report.  While alot of good practice is evident, a range of recommendations have also been made to help groups improve governance structures and procedures.

One of the most common issues where groups need to make improvements is around financial management policies and practices. As this is a vital and rather specialised area, I want to encourage groups to consider accessing the support available through the CLP:

1. Use an action learning sessions to cover this topic - If your own facilitator does not have specific expertise in this area, you could use one of your 10 ALS ‘credits’ to bring in someone who does have relevant experience. You need to get approval for this in advance by emailing me with the name and relevant experience/qualifications of the expert you wish to use and the cost, duration and a brief outline of the session content. If you need help finding a suitable expert, NICVA’s social enterprise consultancy, Sector Matters, can tailor a capacity building session for CLP groups.

2. Find out about the 'Building Financial Foundations' project - If you feel you need more substantial support with managing you finances, this project, funded by Lloyds TSB Foundation, could provide up to 6 days of expert consultancy support to review your existing policies and procedures, develop a tailor-made improvement plan and work with staff and board to implement the plan. It is aimed at groups with a maximum annual income of up to £100,000.

If you are interested in either of these options, just contact me on 028 9087 7777 or at grainne.maginnis@micva.org as usual.
